For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy…Dating them is the hard part.
Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom…until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.  Deciding between pizza and Chinese take-out will no longer be one of the hard decisions facing Lily Drake once she is immersed into vampire society. Humanity or immortality? That doesn’t hold a candle against this question – which of the two handsome vampire cousins? The Life and Death of Lily Drake is not your typical vampire love story. It’s a tale about the humorous mistakes a woman makes simply trying to survive not only life, but the dating scene.  How will Lily manage working full-time, taking care of her young son and fighting the undead at every turn? Lily will have to figure it out, but who better to save the world than a mom?

A little bit about the authorT. Michelle Nelson

When T. Michelle Nelson was a little girl she told people she was going to be a skeleton when she grew up. Most people assumed she confused the question with “What do you want to be for Halloween?” She doesn’t remember, but thinks it’s debatable either way. With her love of all things monster and horror, it’s possible she actually did want to grow up to be a skeleton.

Years later, little has changed.  T. Michelle still loves her monsters, but now she writes about them.
Originally from Western Kentucky, T. Michelle is a graduate of Murray State University.  She now resides in picturesque Mount Vernon, Ohio, which is also the setting of her novel, The Life and Death of Lily Drake. When she isn’t vicariously living through her characters, T. Michelle Nelson is a not-so-mild-mannered mother, semi-decent baker and lousy volleyball player.

Congrats on the Book Birthday Michelle! I know the book will do well! YAY!!! :)

Michelle Clay – Tuesday Talent

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Michelle is a Texan, like me. She’s a writer, like me. And she’s into paranormal goodness, like me. Now we’ll get to learn a little more about Michelle! Thanks so much for letting me interview you, Michelle!

ME: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

M.C: Don’t laugh. Bram Stoker’s Dracula was one of the first novels I read and I guess from there, I was hooked on vampires and the supernatural. From there, I was introduced to Anne Rice’s vampires and I’ve been a vampire fan-girl ever since!

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

M.C: That’s a hard question to answer. I haven’t been fan-girl crazy over anyone (rock stars and Johnny Depp don’t count, right?) in a long time. I can be a little withdrawn, so it’s not always easy for me to “meet and greet”. I’d love to meet some of the classic authors and some of the hot new ones.

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? Purple – I bet you expected me to say Black, didn’t you?
  • Favorite season?  Spring
  •  Favorite Hero – movie or book?  Any character Johnny Depp plays. Oh, or Eric from TrueBlood.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? That’s not fair, I’m dieting right now. Anything not good for me? Lol
  • What’s your Astrological sign?  Pisces
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Steamy
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? A mix of both.

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

M.C: Usually a cat, tons of post-it notes, notebooks and whatever I’m drinking at that moment. :)

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

M.C: I live with a teenage boy… it’s seldom quiet in my house. I usually have music going in the background, seems like I can’t do anything without it. When Christina Perri released “A Thousand Years” I thought that was the song that summed up Marcus and Emily’s relationship in Of A Darker Nature. Then I found out it was in that last Twilight movie. Now I have to find another song!

ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

M.C: I like almost all of Cole’s lines from soon to be released, Marked Souls. He’s moody, he’s Irish and loyal to a fault. Oh, and he’s one hot hunk of man candy! The line below is one of my favorites of his. Throughout the book he’s been so strong, so closed off from his own emotions and won’t allow himself to feel anything. Finally we get a glimpse of what he’s kept hidden, what he’s afraid to admit.

“I hadn’t planned on us happening, Alex. I did my best to prevent it. I don’t want to need you. I don’t want to care about you, but I do.”

ME: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

M.C: Perhaps it’s a bit cliché, but who wouldn’t want to be Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty? I’ve also thought Ares was pretty interesting as well. I like to think he’s not all about war and death and destruction. After all, didn’t he fall in love with Aphrodite?

Michelle’s Bio

Even as a child, Michelle wasn’t afraid of the things that went bump in the night. In fact, the thought of a world where werewolves roamed and Dracula reigned king may seem like an eldritch dream to most, but was exciting to Michelle. Instead of turning on a light for comfort, she reveled in the dark, imagining the lives of what was out there roaming the night and frightening those who didn’t truly appreciate how interesting the supernatural really were.

Nowadays, her visions continuously take shape as she brings life to the worlds she has imagined since childhood. The wild imaginings that often got Michelle out of, or more often into, trouble as a young girl have informed and enriched her storytelling as an adult, bringing a fresh new voice to the paranormal romance genre.

Coming June 15th… Marked Souls.

Check out the cover.

Marked Souls Blurb:

Not only can Alexandra Chandler summon demons, she can destroy them as well. Unfortunately, her unique gift has garnered the attention of Erielnael, one of the most powerful demons in the Netherworld. He recognizes the raw power Alex holds and wants to make her his familiar. This demon is unlike any other she’s ever gone up against. When she narrowly escapes him, he put a price on her head and his denizens will stop at nothing to please their master.

Unfortunately for Alex, demons aren’t the only ones after her. A small, secretive group of demon hunters has learned of her talents and wants the use of her extraordinary gifts as well. When she agrees to help them, her life is turned upside down. To make matters worse she has fallen for Cole Murrough, a key member of the group, who is moody and sometimes difficult to get along with. Cole has a dark secret of his own, but can she accept it? Alex finds herself dealing with demons, a forbidden love, dark secrets and a betrayal so shocking; it could destroy everything she’s worked toward.

Underworld 4 – End of a Love Affair

Friday, January 20th, 2012

I’m starting with positives:

Kate Beckinsale, you are one of the most beautiful women ever. IF my books are ever made into a movie, you must play one of my Goddesses! Because I adore you. And the following review makes me sad…

Now we’ll move on the the negatives: (SPOILERS – Alert! – SPOILERS!) – You’ve been warned…

I am so so sad. Because, when I grow up (a long, long time from now), I wanted to be Selene, the kick-butt yet justice dealing Death-dealer – at least for Halloween…

Now, well, not so much. At least not Selene from U4… Selene from U1 & U2 (and snippets of U3) – I’ll always adore!

Underworld 4 is bad.

It’s not just the lack of:

the lack of Michael (real Michael, not stand-in CGI Michael)

the grainy dark filming style

the MUSIC – the same haunting, mood-inducing theme and filler music from the first 3

Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen

or rain…

It’s not only because out of a 90 minute movie, 45 minutes (maybe more) heard less than three lines of dialogue but saw Selene being thrown into various shatter-able things. Or that Selene, who is smokin hot, spent half the time looking smokin hot in slow motion – close-up, panoramic, running, walking, standing, posing, looking thoughtful, looking angry, looking… You get the picture. Again, she’s hot, but Selene is more than that. She’s kick-butt judge and jury, the fighter on the side of ‘right’. Not at all as she is portrayed in U4:  she’s a killing machine (like cold-blooded, cruel, murder kind of kill) humans, lycans, vampires – you name it. Which was wrong!

So so sad… *Sigh*… Next…

It wasn’t that Selene and Micheal’s daughter (who we were told at least three times was ‘unique’… kind of like her father?) looked like a Monster High doll when she did her shape-shifting, look at my fangs pose.

And, if she’d never been outside of the clinic for her 12 yr existence, why did she have a British accent? Her caretakers didn’t. Is it in the vampire gene, perhaps? It’s a puzzle.

It wasn’t the elder of the vampire clan that tried way too hard to be Bill Nighy… Can anyone other than Bill Nighy pull this off? No, no they can’t.

It might have been the super-gigantic giggle inducing lycan. It might have been the newly ‘tweaked’ lycan look. It might have been the all-too-predictable side story of father-son, Dr and gigantic giggle inducing son – or their abysmal performances.

It was a combination of all of the above. It was just bad.

I MISSED you Scott Speedman.

But, after watching this film, I understand why you sat this one out.  I’m so so sad…

Zombies!

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

I’ll admit – I’m relieved that there’s a brief vampire respite. I mean, I love a good vampire book or film – but enough already. I know it’s only a temporary hiatus, as the two Twilight final films (based on the book ‘Breaking Dawn’) will bring vampires and werewolf/shape-shifters back into the spotlight. I do not care for the TV series True Blood, so I’ve never tried to sit through the books. While I did try to read Vampire Diaries, didn’t like the book but enjoy the teen sopa opera television drama – it might be because I think Ian Somerhalder is awesome (from his LOST Boone days, too.).

Zombies seem to be the next ‘paranormal’ creature to rise to ‘stardom’. Between AMC’s new zombie series, The Walking Dead , the upcoming film version of ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’, and the wrap-up of the zombie laden Halloween films – zombies are cool.

I have nothing against zombies.

One of my favorite movies of all time is the fantastic (often duplicated but NEVER replicated) 28 Days Later

(NOT 28 Weeks Later – which is a pitiful sequel). This genius film aside, there’s not much to make a zombie film new and original.

I mean, look at Zombieland  - wince and sigh. It wasn’t bad but, yawn. Other than a funny cameo by Bill Murray and a bizarre comic bit with Twinkies is not so funny. Compare it to the hilariously fast paced and still disturbingly graphic and gross Shaun of the Dead (which I own) and there’s no contest.

As far as books – Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was fine. Didn’t get as much out of it as I’d hoped for. I did, however, sincerely enjoy Boneshaker - a layered, absorbing, steampunk novel by Cherie Priest. I haven’t read the others in the Clockwork Century series, but I plan to.

All in all – enjoy your vacation from mainstream popular culture vampires and werewolf/shape-shifters. We’re being pleasantly entertained by flesh-eating, walking corpses for the time being!
