Movie Review Catch-Up

Thursday, June 28th, 2012

The last few weeks have been crazy busy. I’ve been sick – so guess what? I watched some movies… I thought I’d give you some short (super short) reviews before I return to the Greek Mythology Challenge. So, here we go.

Netflix/DVR/OnDemand:

Jane Eyre (2011) – Mia Wasooski, Michael Fassbender, Judy Dench and more. I loved this movie. It was stunning, leaving completely riveted. I now own a copy. And Michael is now secure in his spot as my ‘Ares’.

The Grey (2011) – Liam Neeson and Dermot Mulroney. I enjoyed it. I mean, it has THE Liam Neeson in it. BUT the CGI wolves really bothered me. Is it that hard to work with real wolves? They were too distracting. Boo!

Wrath of the Titans (2012) – even THE Liam Neeson couldn’t save this mess. Even the music was an epic fail.

Take Shelter (2011) – This movie was a complete surprise. I rented it after catching a tantalizing and curious preview. And I’m SO glad I did. If you haven’t seen this movie and like arty/indie feel movies that build slowly, I really recommend this movie. It was… startling. In a good way. You all know me – I’m a fan of odd, sad, bleak things – so keep that in mind.

I’ve been to the movie theater twice this summer. Wait, that’s not true. I’ve been to the movie theater four times this summer – so I could see both movies twice. And before you judge, it’s not just because I’m a fan of all things Mr. Hemsworth, honest!

At the Movies:

The Avengers – Yes. I loved this movie. Joss Whedon is The Man when it comes to writing ensemble scripts that give EVERY character their time to shine. And that was the case with Avengers. I loved this movie and loved that I laughed out loud. For me, who was on super-hero burnout, the Avengers made super-heroes cool again.

Snow White & The Huntsman – I admit it, this movie is now a guilty pleasure for me. I know there was some wince-worthy lines, some ‘almost’ performances, and had fairly predictable twists – but… I’m a fan. Bring on the cheese, I’ll have another helping. It was so beautiful to watch and had a soundtrack I’ve already plugged in for my WIP.

And yes, Mr. Hemsworth IS in both movies – looking just right on the big screen.

What about you? Watched anything interesting this summer? Share with the blog ;)
