Tip #2 – Romance at Home – The Kiss

Monday, October 15th, 2012

We covered the importance of a good cuddle last week :)

So,  how did that work out for everyone? Enjoyed it, right? Felt close to your man/woman/person of significant importance – ahem – you know what I mean. Cuddles = GOOD!

We’re going to keep on with the touch based concept, but isolate it to one part of the body.

Your lips… meaning The Kiss…

How often do you kiss your partner? Once a day? More?

A kiss is an intimate thing – think about it. Yes, it’s lips touching, but your lips don’t really encounter all that much.  Their primary purpose is to help us take in or let out. Further explanation below:

They help us eat, to nourish our bodies.

They help us drink, so we stay hydrated and healthy.

They help us speak, introducing our brilliance to the world through out masterful eloquence… :)

They help us breathe.

I know – our lips are a BIG deal – they take care of us, help make us ‘us’.

That’s why a kiss is so intimate. We’re sharing our lips with someone else, we’re sharing out breath, our spirit for that moment. You’re accepting that person, deeply, in a simple – yet not so simple – way.

Your tip for this week: Kiss your partner. Be it a peck or one of those toe-curling, heat-in-the-pit of your belly lip-locks that you don’t want to end. It’s about love – and showing it to the person we’ve chosen to share that special emotion with!

So that’s my take – but I want to hear your thoughts? Do you think kissing is over rated? Do you have morning and bedtime kisses or is kissing not such a big deal for you?

Happy kisses this week! :)

Tip #1~ Romance at Home

Monday, October 8th, 2012

Writing isn’t easy. There are times you want to walk away from the story you’re working on, ignore the voices in your head, and find a less… temperamental career. BUT  it’s the challenge that keeps me invested and interested in each novel ~ and my career.

I’m not alone. Most people wouldn’t really appreciate something if it’s handed over or offered up too easily. Not all the time anyway… People like to work towards something. To be able to stand back and say, ’I did that’. (Think Tom Hanks fire in CASTAWAY.)

This applies to marriage/long-term relationships too.

The first years are easy – love is fresh and new and full of butterflies deep in your belly. But things change. And life is full of ups and downs, sick kids, layoffs, car repairs, mid-life crisis, moves, and so on. That’s why it’s so important to take a little bit of time each and every week (more often is better) to really love your partner. Not just say it, mind you, but SHOW it!

I’ve decided to help – if you’re interested? :) My goal: one idea a week – nothing to big or too grand – to help keep those home fires burning.  My hope is that you’ll sound off and share things that work for you. Every week will have new ideas and topics.

My first suggestion: Cuddle.

Yep, I know, it’s ground-breaking in it’s simplicity – but, people, it works. How many studies have reflected that the power of touch soothes? And the touch of a loved one – exponentially.

Honestly, there’s nothing to put you in sync with your partner like the sound of their heartbeat beneath your cheek. Sit, lay, wrap-up – however it works best for you – and stay that way until you and your partners heart-rate evens out.

**Note – this is about relaxing together but if the heart-rate picks up, that’s not necessarily a bad thing… :) Whatever works, right?**

Point is, touching (physically and emotionally) is essential for a healthy relationship.

I really look forward to sharing with you guys!

So – Do you cuddle? Is it to quiet? Do you talk – share your day? Watch a movie? What do you do to decompress together?

For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy…Dating them is the hard part.
Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom…until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.  Deciding between pizza and Chinese take-out will no longer be one of the hard decisions facing Lily Drake once she is immersed into vampire society. Humanity or immortality? That doesn’t hold a candle against this question – which of the two handsome vampire cousins? The Life and Death of Lily Drake is not your typical vampire love story. It’s a tale about the humorous mistakes a woman makes simply trying to survive not only life, but the dating scene.  How will Lily manage working full-time, taking care of her young son and fighting the undead at every turn? Lily will have to figure it out, but who better to save the world than a mom?

A little bit about the authorT. Michelle Nelson

When T. Michelle Nelson was a little girl she told people she was going to be a skeleton when she grew up. Most people assumed she confused the question with “What do you want to be for Halloween?” She doesn’t remember, but thinks it’s debatable either way. With her love of all things monster and horror, it’s possible she actually did want to grow up to be a skeleton.

Years later, little has changed.  T. Michelle still loves her monsters, but now she writes about them.
Originally from Western Kentucky, T. Michelle is a graduate of Murray State University.  She now resides in picturesque Mount Vernon, Ohio, which is also the setting of her novel, The Life and Death of Lily Drake. When she isn’t vicariously living through her characters, T. Michelle Nelson is a not-so-mild-mannered mother, semi-decent baker and lousy volleyball player.

Congrats on the Book Birthday Michelle! I know the book will do well! YAY!!! :)

New Release – Willa Blair’s HIGHLAND HEALER

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

I’m tickled to help promote a friend and fellow RWA chaptermate’s debut novel: HIGHLAND HEALER. And yes, that IS Jimmy Thomas on the cover :)

Blurb

HE NEEDS HER FOR HIS CLAN.

HE WANTS HER FOR HIMSELF.

CAN HE HAVE BOTH?

Toran Lathan never expected to become Laird, and never expected to meet a woman like Aileanna Shaw. Her healing ability is just what his people need, but Toran cannot resist her beauty.  Yet will loving him destroy her ability to heal?

Aileanna Shaw has a healing touch – and a special talent she must keep secret.  Stolen from her home by a marauding army, she’s kidnapped again by the Highland Laird she heals. Is she a prize of war, or the prize of his heart?

While Toran battles the invading lowland army, he also battles his desire for Aileanna. And Aileanna must decide if she can trust her secrets to this fierce warrior who needs her talent, but wants her love.

Excerpt

 HIGHLAND HEALER

“What do you intend to do with me?” she asked at last, afraid and hopeful at the same time. It was too much like the last question he’d asked her this morning. “And what’s to be done with me?” She recalled the dismay that had filled her at his question – and her certainty that Colbridge would torture him for information, then kill him. But only after she’d healed him again and again, and only after he’d given up his secrets to his tormentor.

So now it was her turn to wonder. Despite his threats a few moments before, she had sensed no real animosity in him. She’d been treated well since arriving at the Aerie.

Her dream of a home, with people who cared about her, perhaps a family of her own, rose unbidden to her mind, and with it came a familiar lump in her throat. She was tired, she thought, to let that longing overwhelm her now. She folded her arms under her breasts and kept her eyes on the flames. She heard Toran move from the door to stand behind her. She tensed as his hands came to rest on her shoulders. He turned her gently, but irresistibly, to face him.

What should I do with so beautiful, so valuable, a prize?” he murmured, almost to himself.

Aileana was caught in his deep blue gaze as completely as she was in his hands. She knew she should be outraged at being called a prize. He’d done it before, on the way here. Was that truly how he saw her? She was not chattel, she told herself, and would not be treated that way. But she found she could not summon her ire. One of his hands left her shoulder and he lightly touched her cheek, then slowly slid his fingers down her throat to her collarbone. There, he hesitated, and Aileana held her breath until he moved the hand back to her shoulder.

A little about Willa Blair:

Willa Blair is the award-winning author of Scottish Historical and Contemporary Romance, both with a touch of the paranormal.

She grew up reading science fiction, but her best-loved books focused on the relationships between the main characters, who often had psychic talents.  When she discovered Romance, she was thrilled to find that some of the books not only portrayed the journey of the hero and heroine, but included the special talents she’d always loved her characters to possess.

With her Scottish heritage, it was natural for her to write a Scottish historical and incorporate those special talents.  The result is her award-winning debut book, HIGHLAND HEALER, the first in her Highland Talents series, due out in early 2013.

She realized her life-long dream of becoming an author after retiring from her day job to write, travel, and enjoy life.  Married to her own military hero golf fanatic, she lives in the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio where she writes, feeds hummingbirds year-round and has too many hobbies to count.

Rapid Fire Questions… Thanks for playing along Willa!!!

Me: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

W.B: I grew up reading science fiction and SF fantasy, so I’d have to say anything by Heinlein, Clarke, del Rey, Bradbury, etc., until I discovered female authors such as Bradley and McCaffrey and fell in love with their characters.  The first romance was probably a category romance by Rebecca York.  I still read hers, along with lots of other authors and genres I’ve discovered since then.

Me: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

W.B: Linnea Sinclair.  She writes Science Fiction Romance.  I’ve taken online classes from her but never met her in person.  I love her books.  And I just met Roxanne St. Clair last weekend.  Total fan-girl afternoon.  She gave an amazing workshop and was so nice, I’m even more of a fan than I was before I met her.

Me: What’s your:

  • Favorite color?  Deep turquoise.  Teal.  But also anything in the autumn palette – golds, oranges, greens, browns.  Short answer: anything but pink, and I can tolerate some pinks if they’re saturated enough.
  • Favorite season?  Autumm.
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book?  Gabriel Ross Sullivan in Linnea Sinclair’s Gabriel’s Ghost.  I love a wounded hero and he’s about as wounded as wounded gets.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)?  Sweet.  Salty.  Both.  I’m a walking, talking sweet tooth, and yes, I’ll admit it.  I’m addicted to chocolate.
  • What’s your Astrological sign?  You know me.  Can’t you tell?  Leo!
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I don’t do sweet.  Cuddly, maybe.  So that leaves steamy!
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories?  Steamy, definitely.

Me: What’s on your desk when you write?

W.B: Besides my cat, who does her best to get in my way?  A glass of water, a “to do” list pad, a mug full of pens, a Blair paperweight with the crest and tartan.  On the wall across from my desk is a brass rubbing I did years ago in England of Robert the Bruce.  Somehow, I must have known even then that I’d write about Scotland someday.  A different century, but still Scotland.

Me: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

W.B: Quiet.  I get deeply into my head when I write and music distracts me.  I love music – almost all kinds – but not when I write.

Me: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

W.B: You really think I can answer that?  I like them all!  If I pick one, the others will get jealous!

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

W.B: The next book in the Highland Talents series is with my editor, along with a synopsis for the third.  I’ve got ideas for more in this series, too.  Some of those secondary characters are demanding books of their own.  Plus a contemporary novel is in the works, and I have plans for an SFR series.

Thanks so much for coming on the blog and sharing Willa! I have already purchased Highland Healer and know what I’ll be reading tonight!

Tuesday Talent – REBECCA HART

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

It’s that time again – the one you’ve all been waiting for: Tuesday Talent! And today I’m showcasing Rebecca Hart. Her supremely awesome pirate tale is coming out June 21 from InkSpell Publishing. If you’re into the whole pirate adventure thing – and who ISN’T – you must put her book on the top of your TBR pile!

Firing a virtual ship’s cannon … now… Let the interview begin :)

Me: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

R.H: oOo — that is really hard… First one?? Where the Wild Things Are — Children’s book (and my favorite of all time) by Maurice Sendak.

Me: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

R.H: I would probably fall over myself if I met a bunch of authors… a few that come to mind are Stephen King, Jennifer Blake and Patricia Rice (C. S Lewis too, but I think he may be dead)

Me: What’s your:

  • Favorite color? Green
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Cap’n Jack Sparrow :P
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)?  RUM
  • What’s your Astrological sign?  Virgo
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I think a bit of both. Toe-curling steamy I leave to my erotica writing alter ego  :)
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I read just about everything. Romance, sweet and erotic, humor, horror, fantasy… I was raised on bodice rippers and historicals.

Me: What’s on your desk when you write?

R.H: Not sure about my desk, since I don’t write at a desk usually. Technically, I guess the desk belongs to my boyfriend. Most of the time, I write while sitting on the bed with my beagle, Digger pressed against my hip and the laptop on my legs.

Me: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

R.H: I plot to music almost without fail, and most of the time I also write with headphones in my ears. For Call of the Sea, I had the three Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks playing on loop and repeat. Some great mood music for pirate tales, I tell ya!

Me: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

R.H: These are good questions — just thought I would slip that in here. Hmm… favorite…Here it is: She[Ellie] gave a nod. “Agreed. Meet me on The Siren’s Call in the morning. With or without Daniel, we need to get that new mast installed. If he doesn’t return soon, we’ll have to consider the possibility of going after Jashir without him.” “Wouldn’t you have to steal his ship to do that?” Ellie drew her shoulders up in a shrug. “Once a pirate, always a pirate.”

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

R.H: Next for me, God willing, is I complete the three novel fantasy series I have started and have plotted in my head. I even have a snipit for you from what will be the first novel, The Machenwood Chronicles:

Hastening in the direction of the light, she[Ana] prayed for a road marker, anything that would lend a clue as to how far she’d wandered from home. She had to get back to Michael. Hopefully, he still slept. The light grew bigger and brighter as the path before her opened up. A building came into view, tucked into the trees. Her pace increased as she approached, encouraged by the warm, yellow glow emanating from the lower windows. The constriction in her chest eased as she turned down the cold, stone walk. Upon entering the clearing before the cottage, her hurried steps came to an abrupt halt. Ana’s mouth gaped open. Bathed in the pale moonlight stood no ordinary cottage, but what had to be the largest shoe she’d ever seen. At least two stories tall, it resembled a woman’s boot with laces running up the front, and tied in a neat bow where its walls joined the roof. Brightly painted window boxes brimming with dainty, sleeping flowers sat beneath each neatly curtained window. She craned her neck to see the shingled rooftop. A plume of puffy white smoke curled from the stone chimney. The house appeared cozy, well tended and completely enchanting. The house resembled one she’d read about in Da’s book of fairy tales.

Me: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

R.H: My favorite greek myth is the story of Sisyphus — mostly because I like the idea of poetic justice. If I was going to choose one to be, I would go with Aphrodite — I mean, who wouldn’t want to be the Goddess of Love and Beauty?

Thanks so much for visiting and sharing a little more about you and your exciting books! Happy Tuesday!

Tuesday Talent – TARA FULLER

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Tara Fuller is gifted. I read Perigee Moon and was boiled over by how real her characters were. I don’t want to give too much of the story away because I want you to go and buy her book. But let me say that I rarely give five star ratings on Goodreads (seriously) but that’s exactly what I gave her book. I am delighted to have her here today. And await her August 14th release of her newest novel: Inbetween.

Without further ado, let’s all give Tara a round of applause and a hearty welcome!

Down to the interview -

Me: What was the first romance or book you read that grabbed you? Who is the author?

T.F: The first adult book that I can remember that had some real romance in it was LIGHTING by Dean Koontz. I loved that book. I read so much it finally fell apart and I had to buy another.

Me: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

T.F: Maggie Steifvater. I adore her writing style and love her books. I have never met her but would love to someday. I fully expect to go all fan girl on her when that day comes.

Me: What’s your:

  • Favorite color?  Burnt Orange
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Dimitri from Vampire Academy *sigh*
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Cookies
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Aquarius
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Sweet & steamy. I write YA so you can only go so far with the steamy.
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Both. My shelves are packed with everything from Kresley Cole, the queen of steam, to tons of sweet YA books.

Me: What’s on your desk when you write?

T.F: A bottle of water. My fish, Story. Lots of post it notes. And usually some form of chocolate.

Me: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

T.F: I write to music. Each of my books has a playlist. One of the songs that really helped me along with Perigee Moon was ‘Wicked Game’ by Chris Isaak. You can see the rest of the Perigee Moon playlist here http://tarafuller.com/music/

Me: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

T.F: I have a lot of favorite lines in Perigee Moon, but if I have to pick one it’s this…

‘Alex kissed me. Kissed me like he’d die without the breath in my mouth. Kissed me until the world around us fell away.’

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

T.F: My next book, INBETWEEN, will be released August 14th from Entangled Teen. It is the first book in the Kissed by Death series. It’s about a grim reaper that falls in love with the girl he is sent to reap. Here is a sneak peek excerpt from that:

“You’ve done this before,” Emma said. “I can tell.”

“What?”

“Danced with a girl.” She ran her palms experimentally over my chest, her skin just a breath away. I ached for her to close that space, but she never did.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to steady my voice. “Just once,” I said. “School dance.”

Emma smiled and did a little twirl. “What was her name?”

I couldn’t think. I didn’t want to think about anything that didn’t begin and end with Emma.

“Can’t remember,” I mumbled just as the flash of a girl in pink satin swaying nervously in my arms shook me. I smiled. “She wore a pink dress. I remember that. And I was so nervous, I thought I might throw up.”

“Did you love her?” she asked quietly. We stopped moving. Silence swallowed us. Then the crackling hiss of the record sounded and a new tune began.

“No,” I said. “No, I didn’t love her.”

“Have you…” Emma took a step back and tucked her hair behind her ear. She wouldn’t look at me. “Have you ever loved anyone…like that?”

I may not have been able to say the words, but I couldn’t stop myself from moving towards her. Emma looked up at me, the question still lingering in her eyes. With one last spark of resolve, I went corporal. Caged her in with my arms and pressed my fingers into her back.

“Finn?”

Emma trembled. But I didn’t think she was afraid. No, this was something else. I breathed her in, clutching her to me, dizzy from all of this contact. Our chests pressed together, and I couldn’t stop wondering what it would feel like for our mouths to touch.

I had to know.

Goosebumps

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

I’m a sucker for romance, especially when it involves a strong man having to yield their stoicism for love. It gets me everytime.

Here is one favorite example (click here)  from Pride & Prejudice (2005)

One from Leap Year – :) (click here)

Of course, I have to post one for my beloved Hector. And another for Leonidas, too.

Yes, I know – I have a thing for cliffs… Interesting that I’m just now realizing it.

I’ll be posting more of my favorite scenes and excerpts from books as well. I’d love to hear about the movies, books, and songs that inspire your heart to pick up speed – so share! That’s all for now… :) Enjoy

Unsung Hero – Suzanne Brockmann

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

I’m pasting this review from my Goodreads account. Why?      Because I loved this book!
Why?
Because Real Men cry – and it’s sexy and manly and powerful.
This story isn’t about one couple, it was a layered novel that makes all three love stories pivotal, sweet and rewarding.
I loved Mallorie and her surprising secret. I liked Kelly’s hidden sex-kitten. And Cybele was heart-breakingly easy to martyr.
The men were all as varied as the women – each charming and attractive in their own unique way.
I guess that’s what impressed me the most. The individual character clarity was so solid, each voice standing alone.
I’m now a Su Brockmann Fan!  I never thought I’d find romance reading about Navy Seals, but I did!
Another Great Book Club assignment!!

Next Book Club read – Blood Trinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love. Paranormal romance complete with demons and gods and stuff… I’ll let you know…
