Apologies for being a terrible blogger…

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

It’s been a bit on the crazy side on the new home-front. School shopping and prep seems to have taken on a life of it’s own – draining energy and the bank account with equal ferocity. After all – outfitting four kiddos of various shape, size and age isn’t a minor endeavor. Add in a dash of stage fright over the newness of their soon to be Alma-mater and the desire to fit in without blending in, teary eyes night of missing ‘home’, angry rants about hating the new place, and the occasional sob session = my life over the last two weeks.

Tomorrow school starts.

(This is how my 14yr old suspects she’ll look in a week.)

While I’m the ever positive and consoling mom, I’m nervous for them. I don’t want to project my insecurities on them or try to relate and mistakenly invalidate or undermine their said angst. So – I smile, a hug, and pat, and reassure, and tell them it’s going to be fine. No, good. And eventually, great. And I hope that my words come true – for all of us. I know a lot of how tomorrow, and the many days that follow, will depend on their outlook. I hope they try, as hard as they can, to see the good and move towards it.

So for all of you packing of your little one, not so little one, or heading in to a classroom of eager and waiting students – here’s wishing you a stupendous first day. I’ll shoot higher and hope that every student and teachers has one of the best first days Ever! Happy Monday – the First day of the 2011-2012 school year. May it be an awesome year indeed.
