Me: What was the first romance or book you read that grabbed you? Who is the author?
A.O: I think it was a Nicholas Sparks Book… I was crazy about him—still am. I also remember reading Princess Bride back in the day by William Goldman.
ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?
A.O: I’m not going to lie, I am HUGE Twilight Fan… and no I haven’t met Mrs. Meyer, yet.
ME: What’s your:
- Favorite color? Black or Blue
- Favorite season? Spring
- Favorite Hero – movie or book? Honestly, I know this is totally lame, but I don’t have a favourite hero.
- Snack weakness (food or drink)? Dr. Pepper and Ketchup Chips
- What’s your Astrological sign? I’m Cancer… which always seems wrong to say that. But… it beats saying I’m a crab.
- Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Well thus far it’s all been pretty tame, since I write for the Young Adult audience. Though once and while I think I should write a full on romance packed with steamy scenes.
- Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Since I write YA, I tend to read a lot of YA so I’d say more the cute and cuddly love stories
ME: What’s on your desk when you write?
A.O: Uh… I’m not sure you want to know. Right now there are empty Dr. Pepper cans, stacks of random paper, books, socks (fuzzy in case my feet get cold) a printer, random junk, office supplies… to be honest there is only a small square of clean space for my netbook. Though it’s a goal of mine to clean my entire office, yet again.
ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?
A.O: I write to music for sure. It’s nice to have background noise and I find it can help you get into a scene, whether it’s sad or action or fun or just internal dialogue there really is a song for every moment in every ones lives.
A song that impacted A Stiff Kiss? There are a few scenes that required some sadness… I seem to have a rock, stone cold heart and had trouble getting into the mood. I’d listen to songs, until finally I had to make an eternal loop of every sad song I could find. Have a Little Faith in Me by John Hiatt helped with that, and so did Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. They are both super sad, emotional songs.
ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?
A.O: “Some people collect stamps, baseball cards, go to war monuments. I like to visit cemeteries, go to funerals, and see the occasional dead body in the morgue. I don’t really see what’s wrong with that.” –Xylia
“This is one of those moments where it probably would be safer to bite my own arm off to make sure I won’t wake her.” –Landon
The first is just funny. Xylia has a bit of a corky side and this is a line that shows that.
The second is typical man thinking at its best. And I love it as a teaser, you have no idea who the person he doesn’t want to wake up is. Could be Xylia, could be someone else
ME: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.
A.O: No tantalizing snippets or hooks, but I am putting the finishing touches on a ghost story

Avery Olive is proudly Canadian. She is married and has one child. When she’s not helping raise her very energetic and inquisitive son, she can be found working on her latest novel–where she devilishly adds U’s into every word she can.
When she is looking for a break Avery enjoys cake decorating, losing herself in a good book, or heading out to the lake to go camping.
