Cover Reveal: Cowboys & Kisses… Or, My First YA Novel!

Allie had big plans for the future. Falling for a cowboy wasn’t part of it.

1.  Get out of Black Falls Texas – aka Redneck Hell

(Graduation was eight months away. After that, she was out of there.)

2.    Avoid Wyatt Holcomb at all costs.

(Except he was everywhere and kind of hard to ignore since he was hot—and a really nice guy.)

3.    Avoid her parents.

(Shouldn’t be too hard to do since her father hated her and her mother pretended nothing was wrong.)

4.    Stop thinking about Wyatt.

(Which would be a lot easier if he wasn’t so sweet… and he’d keep his shirt on.)

5.    Decide what she really wants.

(Instead of holding onto the past and the guilt.)

Maybe falling for a cowboy could work after all?

Stephanie Dray’s Latest Release…

Daughters of the Nile slide

From critically acclaimed historical fantasy author, Stephanie Dray comes the long-awaited new tale based on the true story of Cleopatra’s daughter.

After years of abuse as the emperor’s captive in Rome, Cleopatra Selene has found a safe harbor. No longer the pitiful orphaned daughter of the despised Egyptian Whore, the twenty year old is now the most powerful queen in the empire, ruling over the kingdom of Mauretania—an exotic land of enchanting possibility where she intends to revive her dynasty. With her husband, King Juba II and the magic of Isis that is her birthright, Selene brings prosperity and peace to a kingdom thirsty for both. But when Augustus Caesar jealously demands that Selene’s children be given over to him to be fostered in Rome, she’s drawn back into the web of imperial plots and intrigues that she vowed to leave behind. Determined and resourceful, Selene must shield her loved ones from the emperor’s wrath, all while vying with ruthless rivals like King Herod. Can she find a way to overcome the threat to her marriage, her kingdom, her family, and her faith? Or will she be the last of her line?

Read an Excerpt

Below me, six black Egyptian cobras dance on their tails, swaying. I watch their scaled hoods spread wide like the uraeus on the crown of Egypt. Even from this height, I’m paralyzed by the sight of the asps, their forked tongues flickering out between deadly fangs. I don’t notice that I’m gripping the balustrade until my knuckles have gone white, all my effort concentrated upon not swooning and falling to my death.

And I would swoon if I were not so filled with rage. Someone has arranged for this. Someone who knows what haunts me. Someone who wants to send me a message and make this occasion a moment of dread. My husband, the king must know it, for he calls down, “That’s enough. We’ve seen enough of the snake charmer!”

There is commotion below, some upset at having displeased us. Then Chryssa hisses, “Who could think it a good idea to honor the daughter of Cleopatra by coaxing asps from baskets of figs?”

The story the world tells of my mother’s suicide is that she cheated the emperor of his conquest by plunging her hand into a basket where a venomous serpent lay in wait. A legend only, some say, for the serpent was never found. But I was there. I brought her that basket. She was the one bitten but the poison lingers in my blood to this day. I can still remember the scent of figs in my nostrils, lush and sweet. The dark god Anubis was embroidered into the woven reeds of the basket, the weight of death heavy in my arms. I can still see my mother reach her hand into that basket, surrendering her life so that her children might go on without her. And I have gone on without her.

I have survived too much to be terrorized by the emperor’s agents or whoever else is responsible for this.

If it is a message, a warning from my enemies, I have already allowed them too much of a victory by showing any reaction at all. So I adopt as serene a mask as possible. My daughter blinks her big blue eyes, seeing past my facade. “Are you frightened, Mother? They cannot bite us from there. The snakes are very far away.”

I get my legs under me, bitterness on my tongue. “Oh, but they’re never far enough away.”

STEPHANIE DRAY is a bestselling, multi-published, award-winning author of historical women’s fiction and fantasy set in the ancient world. Her critically acclaimed historical series about Cleopatra’s daughter has been translated into more than six different languages, was nominated for a RITA Award and won the Golden Leaf. Her focus on Ptolemaic Egypt and Augustan Age Rome has given her a unique perspective on the consequences of Egypt’s ancient clash with Rome, both in terms of the still-extant tensions between East and West as well as the worldwide decline of female-oriented religion. Before she wrote novels, Stephanie was a lawyer, a game designer, and a teacher. Now she uses the transformative power of magic realism to illuminate the stories of women in history and inspire the young women of today. She remains fascinated by all things Roman or Egyptian and has-to the consternation of her devoted husband-collected a house full of cats and ancient artifacts.

Hollywood Homecoming! #CoverReveal

Look! Look! Look! Isn’t it beautiful? I’m in love with the cover – and this story. Hope you will too!!

Make-up artist to the stars. The favorite aunt. Dance teacher. Baby sister. Talented musician and song-writer.

Why did that word rank above the rest? Helen loved her family and understood they wanted her to have the real love they’d all found. It’s just that she’d found her someone special and learned to live without him. She’d been too young for the quirky, idealistic doctor-off to save the world-to notice. And, really, if she had it her way, he’d never know how she’d felt. Now, he was one of her best friends, a pen pal, losing him would be too much.

Seeing him at their parents wedding, Helen realizes the horrible truth: she still loves Joseph… which wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t in the situation she was in.

But she was. And her secret will change everything. Will it destroy hope for a Hollywood happy ending too?

YAY for amazing cover-art to dress-up my story!!! I so so love this cover! Now go pre-order it on Amazon or through InkSpell and enjoy it as soon as it comes out in September!

An Olympus Love… Summer Lovin’ Blog Hop Stop

Today is MY day… And guess what I’m going to be talking about?

What else?

Love in ancient times… in Greece… And Mythology too!

I know! You are SHOCKED. Blown away, even, right? ;)

Okay, okay, you knew it was coming. And I know that my obsession with all things Greek Mythology doesn’t make me unique. So many readers LOVE to read about characters from or based on those that fill Edith Hamilton’s Greek Mythology (didn’t we all have to buy this book at one time or another for school?). Writer’s too. I love how many variations, tweaks, loopholes, and complete surprises aome authors have managed to master – creating a new, rich, yet familiar experience.

Weaving romance into these tales – a no brainer. I happen to favor tragic spins, but that’s just me. However, there have been some highly satisfying happily ever after reads too! And THAT’s what I hope you’ll leave in the comments – your favorite Myth related books. You know books you want to share (or should AVOID!) so we can all increase out TBR list for the summer. :) So, thanks for that! I will pick one random commenter for a signed copy of For the Love of Hades, to sweeten the deal!

And, since I’m a rabid movie fan, I have to say that READERS aren’t alone.  I’m going to take this time to share the new movie trailer for 300:Rise of an Empire….

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/rrgSpvelFC4” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

I’m so torn! I LOVED the 300! Seriously – I used a majority of the soundtrack to write Medusa, A Love Story. But will this be the kind-of sequel to honor the 300 in all it’s manly cheesiness? I’m not sold. And what about the romance people? Without Leonidas and Gorgo, will we have the foundation that made the half-naked battles less about half-naked hot guys and more about preserving home and hearth? And what’s with Eva Green…

In other upcoming flicks that I can’t ignore but haven’t decided I’m having Olympic Love for – The Rock (LOVE YOU!) will be Hercules next year. :)

Blogging Nightmares and Bandwidth Mayhem

My blog is under attack by some sort of virtual worm. A worm I’d like to stomp into oblivion…

And apparently bandwidth is an issue as well… making my blog crash altogether. Which sort of defeats the purpose of blogging, ya know?

I’m sad – but working on it - I promise.

Stay with me as I work through these lovely *sarcasm* technical issues and *fingers crossed* upgrade the website to something more fantastic, more interactive, and less worm-plagued and bandwidth deficient…

Anyone know what bandwidth is exactly? All I know it, I’m not a fan…

In the meantime, please keep up with me via Facebook or Twitter! The Medusa, A Love Story Birthday Bash is still underway – don’t miss out on the opportunity to win some very cool prizes. :)

The Evolution of Lily Drake

Thanks for being here today T. Michelle Nelson!

The Evolution of Lily Drake

When the Lily Drake series began, Lily was a normal, single-mother who worked too hard and played too little.  She was a little bitter from her divorce, a little self-conscious and not terribly confident.

Over the course of the first book, Lily became more comfortable with herself.  She begins to make time for herself, lets herself fall in love with not just one but two men and becomes less self-conscious.

In the second book, Lily has grown into the person her Aunt Rose saw in the premonitions.  She is confident, in-charge and a force with which to be reckoned.  Lily is turning into that savior and fighter she was always meant to become.  But don’t worry, our vampire mother is still as neurotic and silly as ever.

I’ve read Book One – I cannot wait to read Book Two!

Light The Shadows – MICHELLE CLAY!!!

Light the Shadows by Michelle Clay

You only get one chance at life then you die. The game’s over, no second chances.  But she was never one to follow all the rules.

In a strange twist of fate, a woman flees purgatory only to jump into a newly vacated body. When she wakes in the hospital, she has a brand new life and a whole lot of unanswered questions.  Now she’s Micah Munroe, a real estate agent with broken memories of the messed up life she once lived. A mysterious man who claims to be Death says she’s his granddaughter and that she’s something called a grimm.

Sully knows she’s an imposter because he reaped the soul of the real Micah only a week ago. He suspects she might be a misplaced shadow, what he calls spirits and vengeful ghosts. He becomes obsessed with finding out who she really is and just how she inhabited a new body.  He’ll stop at nothing to find the truth and send her back to purgatory where she belongs.  What he didn’t bargain on was how his body would react to her or how powerful the white light within her is.

When a powerful shadow and her horde of angry spirits kidnaps Sully’s best friend, they must work together to get him back.  Fighting their feelings for each other isn’t half as difficult as fighting the army of shadows bent on starting a war with the living.

Blog Guest – Karilyn Bentley!!!!!!

Hi Sasha! Thank you so much for letting me blog with you today. I always enjoy being over here with you!

I’m excited to announce that my newest release, Warrior Lover, is currently available in Kindle only format and will be available everywhere on Friday, April 19th. Woot!! Warrior Lover features Enar and Lily, two secondary characters from Magical Lover, the first book in the series. There is one more book left in this series and I’m busy trying to get it out of my head and onto the page. :)

And how did I come up with the idea for this series, you might ask? Well, I knew I wanted a series as opposed to a single title and I also wanted a common villain in all the books (don’t worry, he gets it in the end!). So then I needed a place and several heroes and heroines. After sitting and thinking a scene popped into my head. And it starred dragon shifters. The story would not work in a modern setting, so it quickly got placed into a different world, one that I like to call fantasy-land. I live there sometimes, so it’s a pretty familiar place to me. :)

As usual for my stories, the beginning changed and morphed into Magical Lover, featuring Thoren and Keara. Enar, though, tried his best to take over the story and I had to write him out of most scenes, since he had a nasty habit of one-upping Thoren. Can’t have that happen, it was Thoren’s book. So I gave him his own story to shut him up. I think it worked out well as his and Lily’s story is my favorite. I hope you enjoy it too!

As a Watcher, a guardian warrior of the Draconi, Enar has never fit in with his kind. When he sees Lily–the ideal Watcher’s woman–he instantly claims her, believing she will bring him the acceptance he craves. Falling in love with her was not part of his plan.

As her town’s outcast, Lily wants nothing more than to escape. When Enar locks a necklace around her throat and declares she belongs to him, she jumps at the chance to leave. Her excitement soon becomes trepidation when Enar won’t tell her what to expect in his world. But even her worry can’t overcome her growing attraction to him.

Soon Lily learns what life as a Watcher’s claim entails, and refuses to submit. To keep Lily, Enar must turn his back on everything he thought he wanted. Will he choose his people? Or the other half of his soul?

“You don’t mind leaving?”

All brawn, no brain obviously. Hadn’t she just said that downstairs?

“That’s right. I want to leave. You want to take me. It works out well for both of us. Now, how much can I take?”

“You do not feel a need to take your entire shop do you?” A small wrinkle appeared between his brows.

“As you noticed earlier, there’s not much to take. I have clothes and personal items. A couple of bags, maybe.”

“One bag. Thoren travels light. Insists we do the same.” He glanced to the bed and back to her, grinning. “Besides, the less time you take packing, the more time we’ll have for pleasure.”

Lily’s whole body stiffened, as blood pounded in her ears. Oh, Goddess, not now. She hadn’t left the town. Now she’d never leave. He’d crush her before she could be free.

He took a swaggering step toward her, cupping her face in his hand. “Don’t be frightened. I won’t hurt you.”

Sure you won’t, look at the size of you.

Bending forward, he placed his lips against hers, pressing gently. And just like that, her nervousness vanished.

Tuesday Talent – SHAWNA ROMKEY

Shawna Romkey is in the house… er, the blog. :) I admit, she’s super cool – she’s a mom, and an author, and a world traveler too (she’s been to GREECE!!!). And today I get to talk to her about… her…

Thank you for visiting today, Shawna! Let’s jump in and get to know more about you.

What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

S.R: I’ve always loved books. Probably A Wrinkle in Time by Madelein L’Engle when I was in elementary school. I was always crazy about books. The elementary library called me her Greek mythologist because each week I’d come in asking for anything new Greek myth books.

Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

S.R: I like a lot of classic writers, so I’d say if any of them are still alive, but I don’t think a lot are anymore. George RR Martin is my favorite can’t wait for the next book author at the moment. But I’d probably be excited to see Anne Rice, who I called at her house once when I was vacationing in New Orleans to see if she wanted to go out for dinner or something. She didn’t answer, but yes, her number was listed in the phone book back then. Marion Zimmer Bradley.

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? green
  • Favorite season? fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Chocolate, sweets, any and every kind
  • What’s your Astrological sign?  scorpio
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Sweet and cuddly.
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I read everything but mainly sweet and cuddly or dark and creepy.

What’s on your desk when you write?

I write in bed with my lap top, so blankets and sometimes a dog.

Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

I usually write with quiet unless I need inspiration, like I’m writing a party scene and I want the mood of the scene or a violent fight scene then I might listen to something heavy. Generally I do best without distraction.

What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

“Sometimes the child is the guardian.” It might be a spoiler but I had fun trying to explain the paranormal and the existence of angels, so when I wrote it, it was an Ah ha! Moment for me.

What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

I’m working on book two of The Speak of the Devil series. It’s in the final stages where I’m prepping it for submission. It’s the planned middle book in the trilogy, and in this one the demons strike back!

Working Blurb:

Lily is now working with the angels to stifle the last of the demon outbreaks and to figure out how to stop the Silence of God, so life can get back to boring normality. But all hell breaks loose when she’s stolen from school and brought face to face with the devil himself. Lily has to find her way back home and to Luc, crack the prophecy that breaks the curse silencing God, and figure out how she and Luc can ever really be together; but Lucifer has other plans for her that don’t include her ever getting out of Hell in tact.

Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

I’m a huge fan of the Amazons, so I’d have to go with Artemis, the huntress. I love women who kick ass.
