Tuesday Talent – Michelle Miles

August 7th, 2012 by Sasha

Today I’m welcoming a fellow North Texas romance writer AND a Plotting Princess too. I am so thrilled to have the fantastic Michelle Miles in the spotlight today!

ME: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

M.M: I remember it very distinctly. It was Victoria Holt’s The Road to Paradise Island. I don’t know why it grabbed me but I guess I loved the adventure and the mystery surrounding the main character, Annalice Mallory. And I loved that she was the daughter of map makers. When her brother goes out to sea to find his riches and doesn’t return, she sets sail to find him. She ends up in the South Seas and falls in love with a man who has a sugar cane plantation. I love loved the adventure and romance of the story.

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

Oh, my gosh, yes. There are two: Karen Marie Moning. I loved, loved, loved both her Fever series and her Highlander series. Such wonderful books! I haven’t met her (YET!) but I hope to someday. I also have fan girl appreciation for Gena Showalter.

I adore her Lords of the Underworld series. I have met her—at RWA Nationals literacy signing a couple of years ago. I think it was in DC. We were both wearing green shirts that day. I feel like we’re kindred spirits. ;)

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? Blue
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Indiana Jones and Han Solo
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Cupcakes and cookies
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Gemini
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Yes :)
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Yes :)

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

M.M: A cup of coffee. Reference books. Pad, pen. And a lot of mess.

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

M.M: Since I write at home now, it’s quiet. I find I’m distracted by the music if I have it on. I want to sing along. But there have been occasions where I do write to music (before, when I wrote on my lunch hour, I would need to drown out all the people talking in the restaurant). In that case, I usually pick something that matches what I’m writing, instrumental only. The music I used for Only For A Knight (sequel to One Knight Only) was from Two Steps From Hell’s Archangel album. It’s great. I love it. I’ve listened to it over and over. It never gets old.

Me: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

M.M: It’s from One Knight Only. Maggie asks Elyne, the Fae princess, the following: “Can’t you use a Jedi mind trick on him?” I just love this line because it shows Maggie’s spunkiness and her wit. She was a fun character to write.

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

M.M: I have a lot of projects going on. I’m awaiting edits for Only For A Knight, I’ve just turned in another sexy novella entitled Temptation of Eden which I’m waiting to hear back on, and I’m working on a new shifter story with a futuristic setting.

ME: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

M.M: Hm. I’d say Athena – she’s the goddess of arts and literature!
