Tuesday Talent – Saranna DeWylde

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Thanks so much for taking the spotlight today Saranna! I love getting to interview new-to-me authors and hear about their process, favorites, and books! I admit, your cover has already piqued my interest. I think it will have to go on my TBR list… NOW.

On to the interview:

Me: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

S.D: This is such a difficult question. I’ve always been a reader. My mother started reading to me when I was very young and books have always been a part of my life. I don’t remember the first time a book grabbed me because I think they all did.

Me: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

S.D: Many! I’m a writer, but I’m also a reader with a soul deep love of the genre. I’ve been lucky enough to have met many of the authors I grew up loving and those I fell in love with as an adult. Eloisa James, Teresa Medeiros, Christina Dodd, Kat Martin, Bertrice Small, Jennifer Blake and more recent additions to my auto buy list, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole and F. Paul Wilson. They were all just fantastic.

What’s your:

  • Favorite color?  Purple
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Oh, there are so many. I love Heathcliff, Susan Kay’s version of Erik (the Phantom), Lothaire, I could go on.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Chocolate.
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Leo.
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Mostly toe-curling, but I write wherever the characters take me. It’s not up to me.
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? It depends on the author and the characters.

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

S.D: My living situation is not ideal so I don’t have a desk. I use the dining room table. I have so much junk in my workspace, it’s ridiculous. But mostly, books.

Me: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

S.D: I had ADD, so I used to need music to give part of my brain busy work while the rest writes, but I’ve worked through that and I prefer to write in the quiet. Although, there are some songs that will hit me as belonging to certain characters. Caspian and Grace had a playlist, but I can’t find it now.

Me:What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

S.D: It’s actually a whole scene. I don’t want to give too much away but someone tells my hero that he can see he’d die for the heroine, but would he live for her. It moves me. Because to me, that’s what love is. Dying for someone is easier than living for them. You can only die once, but living for someone, that’s every day and it’s something you have to do over and over again.

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

S.D: Well, this year has been pretty busy for me. I have a whole slew of releases. (YAY) The second book in this series, How To Marry A Warlock in 10 Days comes out September 25, Felony Hex releases from Ellora’s Cave in October, as well as an anthology I’m in with Lauren Hawkeye and Megan Hart called Hot and Haunted from Avon Red. Then, my memoir called Sweet Hell on Fire releases from Sourcebooks in October. I’m also planning on releasing two serial novels. One is an erotica piece called Owned By the Enforcer. Think a Russian mobster version of Days of Our Lives with more sex and an urban fantasy series about a serial killer cop kind of like Dexter meets Anita Blake called Ride of the Darkyrie. So, my plate is crazy full.

**You are crazy busy! But busy is good right? Congrats on all of the Good coming your way!**

Me: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

S.D: Would it wrong to choose one of my characters? While writing Desperate Housewives of Olympus I fell for Thanatos. He was dark, but he wasn’t really tortured. He was so confident and sure of himself, a cyberpunk version of death. I just love him. I really thought it would be Hades in all of his tortured glory that appealed to me, and don’t get me wrong, I love tortured. But Thanatos just… YUM.

**Not at all Saranna – I tend to fall in love with my characters too! LOL!**

 GOT DEMON?

Grace does. She’s got more demon than she can saddle. In fact, she’s got a sinfully sexy Crown Prince of Hell named Caspian. She’s also got ten days to get rid of him or Bad Things shall ensue. See, her Russian mobster ex-boyfriend didn’t take kindly to her smutty Mephistophelean contract. It’s not that she’s conspiring with fiends; that was his idea. It’s that she’s conspiring against him with outrageous devilry that runs the gamut from embarrassing to a dead hooker turned dominatrix demon gunning for his soul.

One should never trust demons, let alone shag them. They don’t have hearts. Yet Grace is buying hers some slightly tarnished armor and hoping that once he’s been shoveled into it, kicking and screaming, he’ll find it’s just his size.  This damsel in distress needs a dark knight for a Happily Ever After.

Thanks for visiting today!!!

Friday Special = Chat with Sylvia McDaniel

Friday, August 24th, 2012

I’ve wanted Sylvia on the blog forever! Thankfully she could drop by today!!! She’s an amazing author, one who is sharing her previously published works digitally on Amazon. This is reason to celebrate people. If you are a true fan of romance and you haven’t read Sylvia’s work before, go to Amazon NOW for a weekend read. Your inner romance addict will be appeased and love you all the more.

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Sylvia through Dallas Area Romance Authors and the Plotting Princesses. Yes, it’s great to be a Plotting Princess – these ladies are an amazingly Talented group!

We’re going to jump straight into the interview… Ready, go:

Me: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

S.M: Gosh that’s difficult!  I’ve loved to read all my life and in high school I read Victoria Holt’s gothics–loved them. Then my first romance was probably THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER by Kathleen Woodweiss.  Today, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, Julie James, Susan Wiggs and Robyn Carr are some of my favorites.

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

S.M:  Susan Elizabeth Phillips.  I have signed autograph copies of her books and yes, I’ve met her.

ME: What’s your:

  • Favorite color?  Blue
  • Favorite season? Spring or any season where the temperature is not over 100 freaking degrees
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book?  I love bad boy heroes.  I use to love Nicholas Cage. But lately, I’ve had a fondness for Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)?  Chips/Salsa/or Crunchy Snapeas
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Gemini
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I think sweet and cuddly, but I recently received a 1 star review because the reader said my book had too much sex. Huh? Me? Please! She didn’t criticize the writing, just the fact there was too much sex, but she finished the book.
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I read it all. It takes a lot to make me put down a book. I think you can always learn something even from bad books.

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

S.M: Too much paper!! I’m trying to clean it off and just have my folder that has my research information in along with pictures of my characters and names of everyone in the book. By the time you reach page 400 I can forget what I named their great-aunt.

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

S.M: I write with quiet or else I’m singing. I tried to write to Antonio Bocelli because it was in Latin and I’ll be darned, if I didn’t try to sing Italian.

ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

S.M: Hmmm….that’s a hard one.  From My Sister’s Boyfriend, there’s one that’s at the beginning.  ” I didn’t come back to Tyler to dress up as an over-the-hill sex queen.”

ME: What happens next :) ?

S.M: Next is that she is dancing in front of the one boy she’d loved in High School, Dr. Brad Moulton. The one boy she’d traded places with her twin sister to date.

ME: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

S.M: I use to love Greek Mythology.  I read it in elementary school because I loved the way the characters were strong. But to be honest, I don’t remember much about them anymore. I would want to be the character that no matter what happened she returned stronger and better than ever. That’s the way my publishing career has been. You can knock me down, but I’ll come back better.

Coming soon to Amazon…

Tuesday Talent – LIZ LIPPERMAN is HERE!!!

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Today I have a fellow DARA member and Plotting Princess as well. She should wear a tiara everyday as far as I’m concerned. Why? She’s Liz Lipperman. If that’s not enough of an explanation, I guess I can give you a bit more. She’s one of those women who is all woman. She has a laugh that invites you to laugh with her, a smile that draws you in, and a real warmth that makes you feel immediately like a friend.

Liz’s Bio:

Liz Lipperman started writing many years ago, even before she retired from the medical field. Wasting many years thinking she was a romance writer but always having to deal with the pesky villains who kept popping up in all her stories, she finally gave up and decided since she read mysteries and obviously wrote them, why fight it? Two years ago, she signed her first contract withBerkleyto write a cozy series writing as Liz Lipperman.

The first book of her Clueless Cook Mystery Series, LIVER LET DIE, debuted in October, 2011 with BEEF STOLEN-OFF releasing in July 2012. MURDER FOR THE HALIBUT is coming January 2013 and CHICKEN CACCHIA-KILLER in the fall of 2013. Look for HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, a paranormal mystery series involving five sisters COMING next May from Midnight Ink and download MORTAL DECEPTION, a romantic mystery, now from Amazon. Both the mainstream mystery and the romantic mystery are written as Lizbeth Liperman.

On to the interview…

ME: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

L.L: Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss—historical romance

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

L.L: I absolutely love James Lee Burke. His descriptive writing is so awesome, I can actually see the dew drops on leaves when he’s describing a tree. I’ve never met him, but his daughter Alifair is now penning mysteries. I have one of hers on my kindle waiting for me to find time!!

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? turquise blue
  • Favorite season? spring
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Alex Moreland from my Clueless Cook Series
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Chips and Queso and Margaritas
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Sagittarius
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Toe-curling
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Toe curling

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

L.L: Computer, notebook and pilot point blue pen, calendar, pictures of my grandkids.

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

L.L: I have to have absolute quiet, but I did do a soundtrack for my first book once. My favorite song from there is “How Could I” by Marc Anthony. It tells my whole story.

ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

L.L.: “Eight thousand nerve endings in the clitoris and that idiot couldn’t find one with a flashlight and a road map.” (Actually, this is from my upcoming May release, HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE written as Lizbeth Lipperman.) It makes me laugh every time I think about it.

ME: What’s next?

L.L:  MURDER FOR THE HALIBUT, coming from Berkley Prime Crime. This is the third book of the Clueless Cook series. HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, the first book of A Dead Sister Talking Mystery is coming in May from Midnight Ink. SHATTERED DREAMS will release in the spring also. This is the one with the Marc Anthony song.

ME: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

L.L: Aphrodite because she’s the goddess of love, pleasure and procreation. What romance author doesn’t love that?

You can find all of Liz’s links on her awesome website, so drop by and follow, like, and READ her wonderful books! You won’t be sorry!!

Tuesday Talent – J.A. Garland & GIVEAWAY

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Today I have the extremely cool and super well-read J.A. Garland.

I love her tagline: Where Fantasy Becomes Reality!

Maybe it’s because I totally relate to it?

So read on…

ME:What was the first romance or book you read that grabbed you? Who is the author?

J.A.G: Ride the Wind by Lucia St. Clair Robson. This book is a gripping read, one I have hung on to through many moves. Adventure and history abound as we follow several couples through their life journeys. If you haven’t read it, you are definitely missing out!

**OMG – I LOVED this Book J.A. – I sobbed and sobbed over it when Wandered let himself die… sorry**

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

J.A.G: I think I have read every one of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books. Which is quite an accomplishment since she is quite the prolific writer! No, I have never stalked, er, met her. Of course I would love to talk to her, but not at a stuffy, automated book signing. I’m thinking it would be fun to chat about life and writing over coffee and beignets in a New Orleans cafe. What do you think, Sherrilyn? Are you up for it?

 What’s your:

  • Favorite color?  Glacial blue, the kind that takes your breath away.
  • Favorite season? Fall, when the leaves change color and the afternoons are crisp and chilly.
  •  Favorite Hero – movie or book? Ash, or as he’s formally known, Archeron. The first Dark-Hunter ever created in the Dark-Hunter series, he is the perfect balance of torment and hope.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? If you know anything about me, you know that I am a self professed cheese puff connoisseur. I spend a lot of time researching and sampling different types of cheesy goodness. Which leads me to my next favorite thing to do…running. Thank goodness, right, or else I would be a tank! I’m also very ‘into’ the P90X workout videos. I tried ‘Insanity’, but wasn’t all that thrilled. It was all indoor cardio, and besides missing my trail runs, I lost a lot of strength from not lifting weights. So, I went back to running and P90X. It is the perfect balance!
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Capricorn. I am a full-time firefighter, which lends well to the type A personality, stubborn and driven.
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Ha ha, no! My stories are urban fantasy, so there is lots of action, and not the between the sheets kind.
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? No. I write in the same genre’s that I like to read. I enjoy spy thrillers and urban fantasy–anything action packed that gets your pulse racing, and the pages turning.

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

J.A.G: A big mug of coffee! I am a dedicated morning person. I get up before the sun, around 5am. I then drink a carafe of coffee–I’m not joking–I have the blood pressure to show for it, lol. Then I go for a run. I run at least 6 days a week. My favorite place to run is at a nearby park. 500 acres of trails, I love it! When I run I think about the next chapter of my current W.I.P. So by the time I get home, I am all ready to have at the computer. I peter out around noon, but get a second wind in the evening. Then I usually edit paragraphs I’ve already written, I don’t add anything new.

ME:  Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

J.A.G: My writing area must be as quiet as possible. I used to listen to music when I wrote, then I realized that the emotion of the songs carried into my writing. Which can be a good and bad thing. Maybe you didn’t want flowery and passionate when you were constructing that fight scene?

ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

J.A.G: Well, it hasn’t come out yet, but here is the first line from my WIP. I really like it because I think it has a strong hook. What do you think?

It takes one part opportunity, two parts discipline, and three parts disposition to effect a solid assassination operation. Having two out of the three this chilly Seattle evening, Slade considered himself in an unusual abundance of good fortune.

ME: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

J.A.G: I am currently working on book two of the Halfling Chronicles. Without giving anything away, this novel pursues the origins of the Halflings and the Shadow creatures who wish to control them. It also follows Slade, who tried really hard in book one to take center stage. In this book he gets full rein, and boy does he take it!

Thanks so much for chatting with me today, Sasha!

Movie Catch-Up

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

It’s past time to talk movies! I mean, really, what’s up with that? I may not have said anything about what I’ve been watching – but you KNOW I’ve been watching stuff… Some good, some not so good.

Away we go:

MOVIE THEATER

The Dark Night Rises – **MINOR SPOILERS**

Don’t hate me for saying this but I didn’t really love this movie. It was good, okay, but not great.

What was good – the original cast – Bale,Freeman, Oldman, and Caine all hit their marks nicely. And I applaud the new addition of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he was a delight. And there was a consistency that I applaud. I hate it when a series suddenly breaks from its’ original tone – music, cinematography, etc. The football players - it was cool that they were real players :)

What stuck out/bothered me - If Bane monologued one more time I was going to throw popcorn at the screen - enough already. That’s just me. Also, there’s something about Marion Cotillard – you know she’s bad. The flashbacks/reveal – not such a big reveal so why all the build up. I think the movie could have been trimmed by 30-45 minutes.

Magic Mike – I enjoyed the first fifteen minutes of this movie. But once they decided to make these cardboard characters into something more than pretty (shallow & creepy) people, I was ready to go home and shower – for a very long time. If there was one thing that stuck out (LOL), Tatum can dance. And it’s obvious he enjoys it… Other than that, it was kind of like Boogie Nights – only strippers vs. porn stars.

VIDEO RENTAL

The Help – I finished the book and had to see the film. I was sincerely pleased to see how well the essence of the book was captured in the movie. Sure things were a little different, but it worked. And the acting was awesome. If you haven’t seen it – you should.

Ca$h – It may have gone unnoticed, but I’m a bit of a Chris Hemsworth junkie. And since he was in this movie – I had to rent it, right? I turned it off after twenty minutes. It was so so so so bad. *sigh*

The Grey – The Liam Neeson does a great job. I actually liked this movie. Yes, it was a bit depressing, but you knew what was coming. And I’m fine with movies that don’t have happily ever after endings. My only complaint – the wolves. What was that about? Why not use real wolves?

I’ve also re-watched the first season of Walking Dead (because I’m missing it), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and a slew of kid friendly movies as my brood is still out for the summer.

There, we’re now caught up. Have any of you seen anything worth seeing? I admit, I’m eager to see the new Spider-Man and Hope Springs. And I’m looking forward to the release of Hunger Games on DVD (you’ll remember I preferred the film to the book – don’t hate me)…

Oh, and while I’m talking hunger games, I’d like to BEG those in charge to take care casting Finnick. He’s my favorite character in HG and needs just the right actor. :)

Tuesday Talent – Michelle Miles

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Today I’m welcoming a fellow North Texas romance writer AND a Plotting Princess too. I am so thrilled to have the fantastic Michelle Miles in the spotlight today!

ME: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

M.M: I remember it very distinctly. It was Victoria Holt’s The Road to Paradise Island. I don’t know why it grabbed me but I guess I loved the adventure and the mystery surrounding the main character, Annalice Mallory. And I loved that she was the daughter of map makers. When her brother goes out to sea to find his riches and doesn’t return, she sets sail to find him. She ends up in the South Seas and falls in love with a man who has a sugar cane plantation. I love loved the adventure and romance of the story.

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

Oh, my gosh, yes. There are two: Karen Marie Moning. I loved, loved, loved both her Fever series and her Highlander series. Such wonderful books! I haven’t met her (YET!) but I hope to someday. I also have fan girl appreciation for Gena Showalter.

I adore her Lords of the Underworld series. I have met her—at RWA Nationals literacy signing a couple of years ago. I think it was in DC. We were both wearing green shirts that day. I feel like we’re kindred spirits. ;)

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? Blue
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? Indiana Jones and Han Solo
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Cupcakes and cookies
  • What’s your Astrological sign? Gemini
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Yes :)
  • Do you read sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? Yes :)

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

M.M: A cup of coffee. Reference books. Pad, pen. And a lot of mess.

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

M.M: Since I write at home now, it’s quiet. I find I’m distracted by the music if I have it on. I want to sing along. But there have been occasions where I do write to music (before, when I wrote on my lunch hour, I would need to drown out all the people talking in the restaurant). In that case, I usually pick something that matches what I’m writing, instrumental only. The music I used for Only For A Knight (sequel to One Knight Only) was from Two Steps From Hell’s Archangel album. It’s great. I love it. I’ve listened to it over and over. It never gets old.

Me: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

M.M: It’s from One Knight Only. Maggie asks Elyne, the Fae princess, the following: “Can’t you use a Jedi mind trick on him?” I just love this line because it shows Maggie’s spunkiness and her wit. She was a fun character to write.

Me: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

M.M: I have a lot of projects going on. I’m awaiting edits for Only For A Knight, I’ve just turned in another sexy novella entitled Temptation of Eden which I’m waiting to hear back on, and I’m working on a new shifter story with a futuristic setting.

ME: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

M.M: Hm. I’d say Athena – she’s the goddess of arts and literature!

Friday Special Spotlight – Louann Carroll

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Between conference catch-up and blog-virus problems my postings this week weren’t as spot on as I was hoping they’d be. But all is right with the blogging world (fingers crossed it stays that way) so you’re all being treated to my interview with the fabulous Louann Carroll. Once you’re through meeting her and discovering all about her book, you can immediately go online and pick-up a copy of her latest release!

Thank you for having me on today. I enjoyed answering the questions and talking about my new book, A Shadow of Time.

It’s my sincere pleasure to have you visit Louann! Let’s jump right in!

Me: What was the first book you read that grabbed you? What genre? Who is the author?

L.C: I WISH I could remember because I’d read it again. I was probably no more than 6 years old. I found the book in the bottom drawer of my sister’s dresser. (It was not salacious. *grin*) But it was awesome and got me hooked on books for the rest of my life.

It was a paperback and it was about Tibet. The main character was an archaeologist. He was exploring one of the largest mountains in the area when he ran into a wise man. The sage taught him all kinds of mysterious things, things I didn’t understand until I was older. The book was written in the late fifties or early sixties. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know. I’ve searched for the novel and have never found it anywhere.

As far as romance novels go, it is Rosemary Rogers for Sweet Savage Love, published in 1974. She is one of my favorite authors.

ME: Is there an author that you get fan-girl crazy over? Have you ever met him/her? Do you want to?

L.C: Dean Koontz. Love the guy. Love the way he writes, love the Odd Thomas series. I’ve been reading him for years. I would like to meet him because I don’t think his mind is as quirky as Stephen King’s. King might scare me a little.

What’s your:

  • Favorite color? Blue
  • Favorite season? Fall
  • Favorite Hero – movie or book? I love old movies so it would be… Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca. What else could you want? An alpha male who’s sensitive and after being dumped by Ingrid Bergman, he eventually understands and puts his country before his heart. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
  • Snack weakness (food or drink)? Chocolate chip cookies taken from the oven then stuck immediately into the freezer. Wait one half hour and *yum*! Frozen Snickers bars, too.
  • What’s your Astrological sign? I’m a Libra with Gemini rising. Obviously, I have issues. I once had my numerology chart done. The bottom line was that I would either become a healer or end up in the nut house. I like to think my books have a little spiritual comfort in them, thereby keeping me sane.
  • Do you write sweet and cuddly or toe-curling steamy lovin’ stories? I write cuddly love stories that have a twist. While I appreciate the love scenes, I do like to ‘fade to black’.  I write books that incorporate love and sex into a novel that speaks to the soul as well as to the body. I like to think of my books as Dean Koontz meets Rosemary Rogers. Isn’t that a pair?

ME: What’s on your desk when you write?

L.C: Well, it used to be Diet Coke, but then I developed Crohn’s disease.  Now it’s a giant glass of water. I also keep a pen and notepad and, of course, my itty-bitty notepad/laptop that I write on. On my desktop computer is the game Eggz Blast. When I need a break from writing, I kill eggs and try to beat my previous score. I had to find something after I quit smoking and this game fit the bill.

ME: Do you write to music or quiet? If you do write with music, can you share one song that’s significantly impacted this story?

L.C: I don’t write to music. If I did, I’d break into song and start dancing around. When I write I get quiet. There can be noise, people talking, doors slamming, but for me, there’s nothing except my computer and the movie going on in my head. Sometimes there is music in my head—but I never write to music.

I play the piano, writing my first piece of music when I was twelve. There’s always music going on in my head, but it’s my own creation. When I listen to CDs, I like country music and Motown.

ME: What’s your favorite line from your most recent release? Why?

L.C: A dear friend who was a New York Times bestselling author told me that if you have a favorite line in your book, hit the delete key.  I’ve always followed her advice.

In A Shadow of Time there is one sentence describing Shadow Ley to a tee. (I chose not to share the poignant sentences.) It goes like this:

A rabid shadow shimmered around the periphery of the house that made the creation look ugly, unwanted, and somehow, soiled.

This line describes the estate of Shadow Ley. The house is pure evil and I think this line describes it well without being too overpowering.

ME: What’s next? You don’t have to get specifics – but feel free to leave a tantalizing snippet or cryptic hook.

REDEMPTION is next and after that Gemini Rising, book two.

REDEMPTION blurb:

Born clairvoyant, 35 year-old Danny Fisk turns to drugs to make him feel normal. The misunderstood love of his wife takes him to the brink of destruction before turning him back to the God of his youth. Danny discovers that even within the depths of depravity God abides, waiting to heal an injured heart.

Detective Serena Del Shaun, Attorney General’s office, Narcotics Division, State of California, loses her sister to the streets and the seductive attentions of a corrupt police officer. Against her better judgment, she vows to destroy him, losing the man she loves, and possibly her life.

Rebecca Fisk, wife, mother, and writer, unknowingly brings down a corrupt police department. She discovers many types of romance, finding it doesn’t matter who creates that magic circle, as long as love shares the space in-between.

Inspired by a true story, REDEMPTION warms the heart and lifts the spirit. Romance and passion lead the way, followed by guideposts of forgiveness and love, forever changing one family’s life.

Me: Who is your favorite character from Greek Mythology OR which Olympian would you want to be? And why?

L.C: Diana. She is the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and birthing. She lives in the wilderness and has the power to talk to and control animals.

I have a herd of deer that live in my back yard. I have this one buck. He is beautiful—with huge antlers. So, one day I’m standing outside feeding him. I get a weird feeling, like he’s in my head or something. This was early to middle summer. Anyway, since he’s already in my head I asked him if he would drop his antlers in my backyard when he molts. I swear he nodded his head.

In late fall of that year, my husband and I were out walking in the back when low and behold, his antlers were on the ground lying against my favorite tree. I yelped and picked them up while screaming at my husband, “See? I told you I talked to him!”

My husband just shook his head, which is what he usually does when odd things happen to me.
