Blogging Nightmares and Bandwidth Mayhem

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

My blog is under attack by some sort of virtual worm. A worm I’d like to stomp into oblivion…

And apparently bandwidth is an issue as well… making my blog crash altogether. Which sort of defeats the purpose of blogging, ya know?

I’m sad – but working on it - I promise.

Stay with me as I work through these lovely *sarcasm* technical issues and *fingers crossed* upgrade the website to something more fantastic, more interactive, and less worm-plagued and bandwidth deficient…

Anyone know what bandwidth is exactly? All I know it, I’m not a fan…

In the meantime, please keep up with me via Facebook or Twitter! The Medusa, A Love Story Birthday Bash is still underway – don’t miss out on the opportunity to win some very cool prizes. :)

Favorite Holidays – Spring Break Baby!!

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

I am, even as you read this, on vacation with my brood. My husband (20 years as of the 13th!!!) decided to whisk us all away… Which was a lovely thing to do, don’t you think?

While packing, checking, and re-checking bags, meds, and all the things a mom of oodles and oodles of children must check and re-check – I couldn’t help but think about some of the best trips/vacation memories ever.

Some of my faves?

Girl Scout Camp at Camp Mitre Peak

Road Trips to Santa Fe

Visiting England – several times

San Francisco

Fort Bend, TX

Paris France – just me and the hubby…

And I realized that it wasn’t so much where I was going, it was who I was going with. Interesting the way that turns out, isn’t it?

So, to celebrate Spring Break I thought I’d send a bunch of swag – bookmarks, postcards, and magnets to the person who has the most ‘aawww!’ memory.

Ready? Go…

And remember, if you’re in Texas, I’ll be flying home and heading to Gonzalez for the Book Lover’s Weekend.

I hope I’ll see you there!

Friday FUN and GIVEAWAY!!!

Friday, March 8th, 2013

I’m going to give away a copy of one of my books (winner’s choice) to the person who shares their all time favorite book and WHY…

I need to ‘feel’ the why people. :)

One of my favorite books? 1984

I know, it’s a dark, scary, pseudo-mental novel, but those are the kind of books I really like. I like to think and feel deeply when I read. And this book does both for me. I was depressed for two solid weeks after I read it the first time. I don’t get quite so down in the dumps now. A strange sense of satisfaction has taken its place.

What about you? I’m not particular about the genre, just what the book is and why?

Here’s hoping we get some great books to add to our TBR list! :)

Three Godesses Release Party – Post #4

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

I’ve had lots of fun so far – THANK YOU for that!

So we’ve covered the visual side of things, now I’m going to delve into the musical side of things. For me, I think of writing my books almost like I was making a movie. That’s why I use images and music… I mean, you have to have an amazing soundtrack for a film, right? For me, the movie is a deal breaker. I honestly get distracted if the music doesn’t fit or if I just can’t stand it. Or is it just me?

I admit – I can be a little… eccentric. *shrug*

Here’s another excerpt for you. A favor this time. Read it. Then read it again while playing the song link below…  Just curious to know if there was a difference in your reading exeperience of not… For those of you that read Medusa, A Love Story – this excerpt might get to you – sorry!!!

Excerpt:

She gasped. Within the clouds, pockets of red and orange leapt and fell. Fire. She glanced at Hades, looking for reassurance. But he stood, staring into the fields before them. His hands gripped the stone of the balcony, his stance at the ready.

But ready for what? She moved to his side, growing ever concerned by the roar of the wind, the flashes of strange fire and lightening. His attention did not waver. She shielded her face from the winds and followed his gaze. The fields were empty, save one.

A man stood, peering up.

Another tremor shook them. But Persephone’s eyes remained fixed upon the man. The sky snapped, thunder boomed, and a large hole appeared at his feet. He slipped, one foot sliding forward, before he jumped back from the edge. It gaped angrily, casting a red glow on the grasses lining the sudden gash.

Persephone moved forward, gripping the railing of the banister at Hades’ side. Fire rose from below, lightening forced from above, both caught in the spiraling winds. The man braced himself as the gust of fire wrapped and twisted about him. Orange flames seared, lightening licked and pricked, yet he did not move. The wind picked up, the flames rising with it. His wheaten curls lifted and fell, but the billowing folds of his exomie burned away. And still his gaze remained constant on the clouds above.

The clouds split, unleashing ice and rain upon him.

“Why does he not seek shelter?” she whispered, vaguely aware that Hades stood beside her.

His voice was low. “He is waiting.”

“For what?”

But Persephone saw her then. A woman fell, tumbling from the angry black clouds. Skeins of long honey hair streamed up, shielding her face from view. The man in the field leaned forward, teetering precariously on the edge of the open hole. His feet and legs were red, slipping closer to the entrance. His every muscle tightened, readying.

The wind fell still.

She gripped Hades’ arm. “He will fall…”

“They will not.” Hades lifted his hand, his fingers rippling slowly, forcefully, pulling towards himself in one undulating wave.

A sudden gust caught the woman, casting her safely into the man’s arms. Hades scooped his hand sharply, pulling his arm towards his chest. The wind echoed his motion, lifting and carrying the pair far from the gaping hole. Hades exhaled. His hand opened, falling back to the railing, and releasing the couple upon the thick grasses of Asphodel.

The sky cleared, the clouds rolling back with a startling speed. The roaring wind softened. And the hole vanished, leaving the field whole, its grasses waving calmly in the ever present breeze.

But Persephone could not tear her eyes from the couple. The man sat up, cradling the woman with an almost reverent tenderness. He swept the hair from the woman’s face, cupping her cheek. His smile was blinding as he pulled her limp form to him.

“This is him? Ariston?” Persephone did not care that tears rolled down her cheek.

“It is.” Hades’ voice was husky.

Ariston was gazing at the woman, speaking to her. The woman moved then, touching his lips and stroking his cheek. She pressed her lips to Ariston’s, wrapping her arms about him fiercely.

Persephone turned from them, wiping the tears from her cheeks. “Such a bittersweet reunion.”

“There is no sadness there,” he murmured. “There is only joy.”

She looked back to find the pair. The woman stood, pulling Ariston up. She wrapped her arms about him and leaned into him as he kissed her soundly. Persephone heard the woman laugh, and smiled as the two headed to the shore. A boat waited.

“Elysium?” she asked, turning her still wet eyes to him.

He barely glanced at her as he made his way back inside the hall. “Yes.”

This song actually inspired this scene – when I wrote if for the book Medusa, A Love Story. This one as well. I rarely listen to songs with lyrics when I’m writing the Olympus books… Anyway, When Hades story came about – it was an equally important scene. But you’ll have to read Hades to learn why exactly…

Let me know – did you like the songs? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to them. When I hear them now, they instantly take me to that scene.

And thank you!!! *HUGS*

Over to Jean!

Three Goddesses Release Party Post #3 – WooHoo!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

WOW – You guys are amazing! Loved seeing all of the posts and tweets with the For the Love of Hades book trailer – very cool! What do you think of the trailer?

Making a book trailer is so much fun. It’s part of the creating process – just like making inspiration boards. I’m kind of in love with Pinterst over allowing me the ability to make virtual boards versus the old print-cut-paste thing I used to do.

Want a glimpes of my Hades board… Here’s a particular favorite image of mine. It’s exactly how I imagined the firestorm that plays such a pivotal role in For the Love of Hades AND Medusa, A Love Story.

Into the Underworld

Excerpt time… I’m sharing a snippet that makes me giggle. Hermes is one of my favorite characters in the series… Oh who am I kidding? I really enjoy working with all of the characters in the Olympus series.

Excerpt:

“Is the impending marriage of a king and a Goddess frivolous?” Hermes asked. “Demeter requested you come.”

Hades felt a sudden weight upon his chest. “Whose marriage?”

“You know,” Hermes said softly.

Hades swallowed. “How will attending such festivities appease me?”

“If she means naught to you, as you claim, this will cause you no discomfort. Indeed it might do you good to see her wedded and bedded. You can move on, free of her.”

His breathing became challenged.

“Demeter wanted to thank you for shielding Persephone from Poseidon. She has arranged offerings for you at the celebrations.”

Hades wanted to hit something. Hermes was goading him, knowingly. He wanted to hit Hermes.

“Or you may stay here, reject the offerings, and brood over the loss of one that was never yours to lose. Not because she would not have you, but because you would not have her,”

Hermes finished, a taunting grin upon his face.

Hades roared, his anger evident, “You have come to torment me, then?”

“You’ve assured me you cannot be tormented.”

Hades stared at him, fighting his fury.

Hermes moved forward, picking up the sword Aeacus had left. “We could wager on it.”

“No.”

“If I defeat you, you will accompany me.”

“No.”

“If you win, I will never speak of Persephone to you again. Ever.”

Hades’ eyes narrowed. “Ever?”

Hermes lifted the sword, tossing the hilt back and forth in his hands. His face was expectant, enjoying himself immensely. “Ever. Though speaking of her should provide you no distress, considering your proclaimed indifference to her…”

Hades swung the sword, bringing it down upon Hermes with all of his strength. Hermes sidestepped the blow, laughing.

See what I mean? Love this excerpt…

Okay, onto the entry-earning tasks part of the post… Ready? I’ll go easy on you, promise.

Three Goddesses Release Party – Post #2

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Hello again! Having fun?

Okay – this time around I’m going to ask you guys to do a few things for me. Each task will give you a certain amount of additional entries towards the super awesome Kindle Paperwhite.

But first – here’s a wonderful excerpt (YES, I am a tease) from For the Love of Hades. I love the way Persephone gets to my Hades. Poor fellow really doesn’t stand a chance…

He was at a loss. “Why are you here?”

“I was waiting for you.” Her green eyes met his.

Her answer startled him, rendering him speechless. His chest felt unaccountably heavy and strangely warm, but he ignored it. She had waited for him. She had waited… for him?

“My mother was summoned by Zeus, you see. She said all had been summoned. Which meant you might also be called upon.” She smiled again, her green eyes never wavering from his. “I hoped this would be your route. The grass told me it was, and they were right. They normally are. They have no need to deceive, I suppose.”

He remained silent, contemplating her purpose. What game was she playing?

“Does it trouble you, my lying in wait?” She blushed then, further disorienting him. “I only thought… I wanted to…” She shrugged, growing redder with each uncertain word.

Finally her gaze fell from his, releasing him to breathe and think once more. He raked his hand across his face and drew in a ragged breath.

This would not do.

Can I just tell you how much I love this story? I DO! I hope you will too!

Okay, back to the tasks and extra entries…
